I'm not one to shy away from a difficult situation or task. I typically just hit things head on....I have always been this way. Hard-headed I guess you could say. I have dreamed of being Mrs. WV for nearly 20 years, and as I am coming up on Mrs. WV International it is really starting to hit me. Interview practice, selecting wardrobe, and most importantly pulling together my platform. All fun, but all hard work!
For my platform, I wanted something that helped to express the community service I do on a regular basis. I wanted to put a name on my platform. A former Mrs. WV International (Misty McMinn) :D suggested a slogan or phrase to sum it all up. So here is what I have so far.
"Keeping your health in focus"
I like it, no, I love it. It is something a lot of us struggle with, but should be one of the most important things in our lives because our lives depend on it. With all my work with Cervical, Breast, and Ovarian Cancer Awareness, Relay for Life, the Go Red campaign, and Diabetes Awareness I think this really pulls it all together.
I have struggled with my health off and on for years until I was introduced to Zumba Fitness (r). I am now 50 pounds lighter and a lot happier. On top of it all, I have been able to share this with not only the people in my community, but in states like New Jersey, Ohio, and Florida.
Not everyone is into Zumba like me and I get that, but I encourage all of you to find whatever it is that helps inspire you to be healthier and something that you can have fun doing. Personal health is everyones problem and by making small changes in our daily routines we can help combat heart disease, cancer, and diabetes.
Be honest with yourself...is your health in focus?
